Despite the recent and constant massacre and attack on innocent people by Herdsmen who go about with sophisticated weapons such as ak47 and machetes, both the security operatives and the judiciary are yet to bring to full justice the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. However, an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday remanded in prison custody a mechanic, Gbenga Adeoyo, for allegedly being in possession of a double-barrel gun with one life-cartridge. Adeoyo, 32, who lives at No. 10, Shola Daniel St., in Oshodi, Lagos State, is facing a charge of unlawfully being in possession of fire arms. The magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the receipt of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs). “In view of the nature of the case, the case file should be duplicated and forwarded to the DPPs for advice,” Awope said. The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the matter till June 6, for mention. The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 23, 2012 at about mid-day at Akinpelu Area of Oshodi, during a stop-and-search. Ayorinde said the accused could not give the police any satisfactory explanation about how he got the gun. He said the offence committed by the accused contravened Section 27 of the Robbery and Fire Arms Act, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004. The accused had been arraigned for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery sometime in 2011. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
